Skillset and Mindset

“Ability may get you to the top but it takes character to keep you there”

Have you ever wondered why some people, despite working so hard do not succeed in life and some people despite taking things lightly manage to accomplish great things in life?

Is it just the skillset that matters for success?

Often we spend most of our time developing our skills and working hard for opportunities. We are never taught to work on our mindset. Even the schools focus only on developing a child’s skill and have nothing to offer to develop a child’s mindset. As a result of which we live our lives with certain beliefs and ideologies that prevent us from recognizing and grabbing the opportunities for success in disguise.

I just came across one such example, one of my friends, an employee of an IT company was fired during the COVID time. Initially, she was devastated and had lost all hopes. She applied for every job opening she came across. Though it took her a while, she was hired by a better company that was paying her 80% higher than what she got in her previous job. If she had not been fired, she would have never applied for this new job. Her route to growth and success was opened by a failure.

There are many such situations in life where a failure clears all the obstacles that stop you from succeeding. But due to our beliefs, we consider failure to be a bad thing and lose motivation and ultimately give up. Most of us give up after completing three- fourth of our journey. It is just that remaining one- fourth journey where life differentiates between people who succeed and those who don’t. No journey of success is complete without the right mindset.

If the skill set is the vehicle you use to travel, then, the right mindset is the fuel that keeps the vehicle going.
