Know what to know

“Knowledge is power”

I am sure, most of us have been taught this in the school. It has been made very clear to us that attaining knowledge is very crucial for a person who wants to succeed. But, rarely people talk about what to know.

World is an ocean of information. If you don’t learn how to swim through it, you will drown.

Our conscious mind is like a utensil that can only hold some part of this ocean of knowledge. The old data that we don’t use one daily basis or, that we don’t consider important, is sent to the subconscious mind. This is why we don’t remember what we ate five years ago or, the lessons we learnt in fifth class.

Knowledge is of two types:

  1. General Knowledge
  2. Specific Knowledge

General Knowledge is what should be known to each and every human being. These are the things that should be taught by every school to every student. In my opinion, there are five things a person should know:

  1. Financial Education
  2. Physical education
  3. General Awareness- Laws of the country, your rights, current social issues etc.
  4. Self Awareness
  5. Self Defence

A person should be up to date in all these aspects.

Specific Knowledge- These are related to your career choices and your hobbies. You have to stay up to date about the latest developments.

Your mind is a very sacred place and a very powerful weapon. Don’t crowd it with the junk that you will never need in life. Use it wisely and respect it.

Let me know your values on this.
